Chasing Sunsets
The last time I exported something with -final in the file name was at least 3 years ago. Well… finally happened again. One of my resolutions this year was to finish at least one track - so that’s officially checked off now.
The drums are from IconDrum (LinnDrum clone from GForce) plus Skaka for the tambourine. The bass and the bells are from Pigments and the rest is Diva as usual. Additionally, the arps (which come in later in the mix) are from ImpOscar, and the strings are from Augmented Strings. I’ve got the latter for free with the KeyLab49, which I recently bought (and I’m happy with).
Shout out to Oblivion Sound Lab for their exceptional soundsets for both Diva and Pigments. These are hands-down the finest presets I’ve found for this genre - every single patch is immediately usable in production, with absolutely no filler content. Highly recommended.
Everything is done in Studio One, which to this day, I think has the most logical and pleasing interface. It’s not without its own set of problems, but in its current form does everything that I need.
This is the first time when I experiment with Unisum as a compressor on the master buss and Pro-L2 at the end of the chain.
Overall, I like how the whole thing sounds - except for the toms. I suck with those and I just gave up at some point.
As for the image - it was AI-generated with Gemini. I tried similar prompts in different services, but most of the results were garbage. Only Gemini managed to produce something useful. And there was also something about the light that I really liked in the end.
Some other variations that didn’t quite work out:
